My hope is that this election will be more about the candidates' ideas and their vision for our future and less about our name recognition and slogans. Below are some of the issues I will highlight during this campaign.
Fiscal Responsibility
I plan to run this campaign like I will help run the city, and I plan to offer concrete solutions to issues. There are a number of smart investments we can make in the City and ways for us to keep operating costs as low as possible.
Energy Policy
- Team with Hillsborough County to develop a market for compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles, focusing on future purchases of trash trucks. By using CNG generated from the landfill gas extracted from the Hillsborough County Southeast County Landfill, we can lock in vehicle fuel costs well below current diesel prices, which will levelize future operating costs for the Public Works Department.
- Conduct full energy efficiency audits of City operations and enter into a contract with a vendor that will either finance building upgrades or guarantee operating cost savings.
Transportation
- Expanded use of golf carts for transportation to non-country club destinations
- Multi-use trails that use existing utility corridors to connect neighborhoods and commercial areas
- Connection to future light rail or bus rapid transit facilities near USF and MOSI
- Common sense review of sidewalk projects
Parks and Recreation
- Prioritize developing the multi-use trail from Temple Terrace Highway to Whiteway Drive, and expanding it to connect to regional employment centers and other neighborhoods, including New Tampa in the future.
- Team with Scout troops and youth service organizations to fast-track the development of the trail network at Riverfront Park.

- Identify future multi-use trails to connect neighborhoods and places of employment
Targeted Property Tax Breaks
- Reward families and businesses that install solar power and solar hot water heating systems
- Encourage Green Building practices that save energy and increase property values
- Reward businesses that encourage alternative modes of transportation for employees
Schools
- Ensure that the School District continues to listen to our residents
- Support neighborhood schools in the city
- Highlight the ways residents can help our schools
Neighborhood Outreach
It doesn't do you any good if the only time you get to talk with your City Council members is during official meetings or workshops. So, I plan to do things a bit differently.
- Hold regular office hours at City Hall - So that you feel comfortable bringing ideas and issues to me, I will hold regular office hours at City Hall every week, which is something that only one other member currently does.
- Neighborhood meetings - I will also conduct neighborhood meetings each month so that I can meet with you and your neighbors and hear firsthand what you like or don't like about what is going on in the city and how we can continue to strive to make our city better.
